CASE STUDY

Microferm LTD

Specialist manufacturer of biological products
Since 1981

Microferm: Innovating Agricultural
and Biological Solutions for
a Sustainable Future.

Company Background:

Microferm Limited, established in 1981, is a UK-based company specializing in the manufacture of biological products for agriculture. Located in Malvern, Worcestershire, Microferm offers a range of products designed to enhance agricultural performance, including silage additives, mycotoxin binders, vitamin and mineral drenches, slurry treatments, and foliar sprays.

In addition, the primary processing of calcified seaweed can be used as a human food supplement. Processing has occurred at this site since 1997 and  Microferm now produce over 3,000 tons for sale all over the world, with 99% of all product exported.

Challenges:

Microferm faced challenges with its previous air compressor system, which was outdated and inefficient. Frequent breakdowns led to production downtime, increased maintenance costs, and inconsistent air supply, affecting the quality and efficiency of their manufacturing processes.

The need for change.

The old air compressor system suffered from many operational issues. To address these issues, Microferm decided to invest in a new air compressor from FNA UK, a leading provider of high-quality compressed air solutions. After assessing Microferm's production needs, FNA UK along with local partners ABX Fluid Fittings (Worcester) a leading supplier of compressed air and pneumatic solutions recommended an energy-efficient rotary screw air compressor that could deliver consistent and reliable air pressure for their operations and benefiting from the Factory ‘TRUST’ extended warranty.

Ambitious targets and objectives.

The installation process was seamless, with the ABX team providing expert guidance on integrating the new system into Microferm’s production line. They also conducted training for Microferm’s staff on optimal usage and maintenance to maximize the compressor’s lifespan and efficiency.

Power System Nobel 55 DVPM installation

Solution:

After evaluating various options, Microferm purchased an industrial air compressor Power System Model Nobel 55 DVPM from FNA UK via the local distributor and service agent, ABX. The chosen system was tailored to meet Microferm’s specific requirements, ensuring:

  • Consistent and Reliable Airflow: Essential for fermentation processes and product handling.
  • Energy Savings: A modern, high-efficiency compressor reduced energy consumption for air generation by over 30%.
  • Low Maintenance Costs: Advanced technology minimized wear and tears, reducing service interruptions.

Results & Benefits:

Since implementing the Power System  NOBEL air compressor, Microferm has seen significant improvements, including:

  • Increased Production Efficiency – The stable air supply eliminated disruptions in the fermentation process.
  • Cost Savings – Energy-efficient operation reduced electricity bills by 24%.
  • Reduced Downtime – Maintenance issues are eliminated keeping production on track.
  • Improved Product Quality – Consistent air pressure enhanced the precision of their manufacturing processes.

Compressed Air – An Essential Resource.

Compressed air plays a crucial role in their manufacturing operations, especially in the processing of essential ingredients and with the handling of specialized filtration systems.

Identifying solutions by consulting experts.

The system was monitored using state-of-the-art instruments and analyses over the working weeks. The data logging itself was incredibly easy, and the data and recommended solution were very clearly explained to them.

Collaborating with Trusted Partners

Microferm’s experience with FNA UK and their well-established distributor ABX Fluid Fittings was exceptional. Every team member interacted with deep expertise and provided insightful recommendations for the ideal solution. The installation process was seamless, and the training was thorough, ensuring smooth integration into their operations.

The proof is in the results.

By investing in the Nobel DVPM air compressor from FNA UK, Microferm has optimized its operations, cut costs, and enhanced product quality. This strategic move has reinforced their position as a reliable and world leading provider of biological products while ensuring long-term sustainability.
